Thanks to initiatives like the Alberta Indigenous Solar Program and On-Farm Solar PV Program, solar uptake has doubled in the province since 2015. The Residential and Commercial Solar Program keeps that momentum going.
Starting this summer, this program will provide $36 million in rebates for solar panel installation on residential and commercial properties.
Within the first two years, the five-year program is estimated to:
- Create 900 jobs in Alberta
- Cut solar installation costs by up to 30% for residences and up to 25% for businesses and non-profits
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the province by half a million tonnes
Micro-generation opportunities like solar to make it easier for households and businesses to generate their own clean energy and help Alberta meet its energy efficiency and emissions reduction targets.
This is one of several Energy Efficiency Alberta programs that will help families, businesses and communities reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions, putting money in Albertans’ pockets and making life more comfortable.
Program details, including qualifying systems, installation and eligibility requirements, will be defined in the coming months and posted on the Energy Efficiency Alberta website.
